Ohio’s bedroom police just announced a new bill, and it's pure evil.
Ban all forms of abortion, with no exceptions for rape or incest
Ban in vitro fertilization (IVF)
Ban some common forms of birth control, like IUDs
Criminally charge people who have abortions with committing “homicide”
This bill spits in the face of parents desperately trying to get pregnant. It forces more trauma on rape and incest survivors. It keeps women stuck in dangerous relationships. It makes it harder to prevent pregnancy and impossible to end one. It lacks basic humanity.
I could go on for several pages about the cruelties of this legislation, but you get the picture.
No decent human being will support something so heartless. We need to make that fact clear to Ohio politicians right from the start.
And if you’re currently thinking, “wait, didn’t we just vote to protect abortion?”
The answer is yes. Yes we did.
In 2023, Ohioans overwhelmingly voted to protect abortion rights in our state Constitution. That vote MATTERS. It will provide crucial protections from extremist policies like this one at the state level.
The Republicans introducing this bill know it’s illegal. They’re hoping to pass it through the Ohio Statehouse, get sued, and take the case all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Their disrespect for Ohio voters is as sickening as this legislation.
If you’re currently asking “what does IVF have to do with abortion??” That’s a great question too.
The answer is science denial.
When you convince yourself that sperm + egg = human, you have to believe IVF is mass murder, because not all of the embryos will be used in the process. It's lunacy, based in insanity. And it hurts real human people trying desperately to get pregnant.
As you’ve probably guessed, this bill will be sponsored by two Republican men who are about as far from medical professionals as one can get:
State Rep Levi Dean, a plumber from Xenia, Ohio
State Rep Jonathan Newman, a pastor from Troy, Ohio
Give them a call:
State Rep Levi Dean: 614-466-1470
State Rep Jonathan Newman: 614-466-8114
Fun fact: Levi Dean’s dad — former State Rep Bill Dean — was the only legislator who voted to continue allowing spouse rape to be legal in Ohio.
“I personally don’t believe that a man, if he’s married and has physical relations with his wife, that can be considered rape," Bill Dean said at the time.
And now his son is trying to ban IVF, IUDs, and all abortion — with no exception for rape.
Like I said, no decent human being will support this heartless bill.
